"Give Me A Break" With that Kit Kat® Blizzard®

Kit Kat Blizzard makes its debut as Blizzard of the Month for April

MINNEAPOLIS – Kit Kat®, one of the top five candy bar brands in the U.S., will now be combined with one of the world’s most popular iconic treats when Dairy Queen® introduces the Kit Kat Blizzard® as the featured Blizzard of the Month for April.

"The Kit Kat candy bar has staying power -- its popularity spanning 76 years," said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen. "We’ve taken those light, crispy wafers wrapped in chocolate that everyone knows and loves to debut another irresistible Blizzard Flavour."

Available at all Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® locations nationwide throughout April, the Kit Kat Blizzard is a Flavourful mix of Kit Kat candy bar pieces blended with rich chocolate and creamy DQ vanilla soft serve.

The average price of the Kit Kat Blizzard is $2.75 for the 12 oz., $3.20 for the 16 oz. and $3.65 for the 21 oz.

Many Blizzard Flavours also can be made into customized cakes, including Kit Kat, which is perfect for Easter or other special celebrations. The average price of a Blizzard cake is $19.99 for the eight-inch and $22.50 for the 12-inch.

Kit Kat was first created by Rowntree Limited of York, England and is now made by Nestlé, which acquired Rowntree in 1988. According to Wikipedia, this traditional candy bar was developed after a worker at the Rowntree factory in York suggested a snack that a "man could have in his lunch box for work." Thus the Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp was born. In 1937, it was renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp, a name believed to have come from the Kit-Cat Club, an 18th century Whig literary club founded during the reign of James II. After World War II, Chocolate Crisp was dropped from the name.

Dairy Queen began blending simple combinations of cookies, candies, fruit, nuts and DQ soft serve 22 years ago to create the signature Blizzard Flavour Treat. Since then, one-of-a-kind Flavours such as Turtle Pecan Cluster, Monster Cookie, Chocolate Xtreme and Dream Pie Blizzards have become Blizzards of the Month, a promotion that began in 2003.

The incredible popularity of the Blizzard brand led Dairy Queen to initiate the Blizzard Fan Club last year, which has already grown to more than a million members (log on to www.blizzardfanclub.com).
